Lychen’s Drawing Pin Walk

Templin Dam

At the time when the town was founded, there was actually a single, continuous body of water here! It was only in 1408 that the Stadtsee (town lake) was artificially separated from the Oberpfuhl lake by the construction of the Templiner Damm (on which the road to Templin runs today).

For centuries the shepherd’s meadow (now a playground) was an island, owing to a moat which ran along the town wall to protect the town from attackers. This moat was only filled in in the 20th century.

The Templin Gate, once one of Lychen’s three town gates, collapsed around 1700.
