Lychen’s Drawing Pin Walk
Town mill
Grain was milled into flour (almost 100 tons a day!) here until 1991, and delivered as far away as Berlin. The building was erected in 1817 after the previous building burnt down.
The mill wheel was run by water power for centuries. To enable this, an artificial canal was dug between the Oberpfuhl and Nesselpfuhl lakes: the millrace, which today can be traveled by canoe.
It is not known when the canal was built. Archaeological finds suggest that the millrace may even be older than the town of Lychen, which was founded in 1248.
