At this location there once used to be a water gate in the town wall, which was used by Lycheners for centuries to draw water from the lake or wash their laundry.

The path was given its derisive name „Köppensgang“ only at the beginning of the 20th century. Why was that? Well, for Mr Köppen, a building contractor who lived outside the town wall, the waterway and this path were the quickest way to the pubs in the town center…
