Hohenlychen Sanatoriums
The sanatoriums built by the Red Cross from 1902 onwards became renowned worldwide for their successful treatment of tuberculosis.
During the Nazi era, the sanatoriums were converted into a sports clinic. From 1942, the head physicians carried out inhumane experiments on 74 prisoners in the Ravensbrück women’s concentration camp. Shortly before the end of the war, Hohenlychen was a negotiating site for the „White Busses“ humanitarian operation.
From 1945-1993, the premises were used by the Red Army as a military hospital. After that, the sanatoriums were considered a „lost place“ – until redevelopment began in 2009.
